People looking for a place to savour contemporary dishes will have a new dining destination this September.
Nanaimo’s David Wong is opening the Jar Restaurant Sept. 15 at 6595 Applecross Rd. His restaurant will feature seasonal and local ingredients including heritage breeds of pork, free range poultry and select produce from organic farmers. The Applecross location is currently undergoing renovations.
Wong has been working as a chef instructor for Vancouver Island University’s Culinary Arts program. He graduated from the culinary program in 1998, when it was Malaspina College. Wong received international recognition in 2009 when he represented Canada and finished ninth in the world at the Bocuse d’Or culinary competition held in Lyon, France.
