Nanaimo’s VMAC chosen Vancouver Island’s Business of the Year

Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards presented in Victoria

Vancouver Island business leaders celebrated the year’s best this week.

The Grant Thornton LLP Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards gala was held Thursday at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort.

Nanaimo’s VMAC Global Technology Inc. was named Business of the Year, while Nickel Bros. House Moving, also of Nanaimo, was chosen Small Business of the Year.

The event program notes that VMAC “is the leader in compressed air innovation, designing and manufacturing the most innovative mobile air compressors and multi-power systems available” and exporting through a dealer network of more than 300 partners spanning five continents.

Nickel Bros., the program notes, “is really a recycler of buildings,” as the company has a goal of eliminating demolition waste and “provides an affordable alternative to demolishing … homes by offering them to others for re-purposing and moving them to new properties.”

According to an event press release, 79 finalists in 17 categories were recognized at this year’s gala.
