A Nanaimo marine technology company has expanded from the Pacific Ocean all the way to the Atlantic.
Remotely operated vehicle manufacturer Seamor Marine announced in a press release this week that it is expanding to Canada’s east coast with a new office at the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship in Dartmouth, N.S.
“This opens doors for us to take part in new entrepreneurial ventures … and provides exciting opportunities for collaboration with ocean tech, which requires reliable, versatile remotely operated vehicles to collect critical data for marine research,” said Jeff Smith, Seamor sales and marketing director, in the press release.
Seamor Marine designs and manufactures underwater observation and inspection-class remotely operated vehicles, such as its Chinook ROV, which has previously worked on projects in the Atlantic Ocean, the release noted. The ROV had a role in the RCMP National Underwater Recovery and Training Centre’s recovery of the wrecked scallop dragger Chief William Saulis in the “notoriously turbulent” Bay of Fundy in 2020.
The expansion positions the company “to effectively engage clients in both government and industry on both sides of the country,” the release noted.
