The value of building permits issued in B.C. continued to rise compared to the year before, according to April building permit numbers released by Statistics Canada.

Permits issued in April 2011 were worth $761.7 million – up 14.7 per cent compared to April last year. Both components of the building permit values are up – 10.8 per cent for residential and 24.4 per cent for non-residential. This compares to an overall decline of almost 20 per cent nationwide.

On a month-to-month basis B.C. still beat the national averages despite a decline in non-residential construction.
