Book marks VIREB’s 60 years

The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board hosts its 60th anniversary celebration and the annual Realtor Awards next month and will mark the occasion with a special book launch.

In VIREB’s six decades, the real estate industry has continued to evolve and as technology becomes more and more important the shape of its daily business processes have drastically changed.

In celebration of 60 years of outstanding service to Vancouver Island, VIREB has captured its history in a new book entitled Reflections: Reflecting on 60 Years of Service 1951-2011, which will be presented at the Feb. 24 gala.

The author, Feron Walker, was born and raised in Nanaimo and spent 13 years in Campbell River raising her family.

She returned to Nanaimo in 2003 to complete bachelor’s degree in history and liberal studies, then went on to attain her MBA at Vancouver Island University (formerly Malaspina University-College).

Walker works as a freelance writer and in communications for the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.

Her appreciation of history and her business education have made the researching and writing of the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board’s book a rewarding partnership, said Bill Benoit, VIREB executive officer.

“The Vancouver Island Real Estate Board applauds the efforts of those men and women who were leaders within their various Island communities, forging this changing and always challenging industry. They are owed a true debt of gratitude for their vision and determination.”

Every attendee at the 60th Anniversary Gala will receive a commemorative copy of the VIREB history book.
