VIU soccer teams take three wins and a tie

Vancouver Island University’s men’s soccer team shut out the Quest Kermodes and Capilano Blues

The VIU Mariners men created some space atop the PacWest standings as they go into a bye week.

Vancouver Island University’s men’s soccer team shut out both the Quest Kermodes and Capilano Blues by 2-0 scores this past weekend. The results had implications in the standings as the first-place Mariners (6-1-1) gained ground on the second-place Blues and third-place Kermodes.

Saturday’s game against Quest was played at Merle Logan Field. Shun Takano and Aly Adeeb scored for VIU. Sunday’s match against Cap was held at Ladysmith’s Forrest Field; Jamie Taylor and Jordan de Graaf were the goal scorers.

VIU’s women’s soccer team also enjoyed an undefeated weekend in PacWest action. The Mariners (2-2-4) hammered the Kermodes 4-0 on Saturday in Nanaimo and then tied Capilano 3-3 on Sunday in Ladysmith.

Moira Brown scored twice in the shutout victory and Shea Battie, with a pair of goals, and Katie Rodgers scored in the tie.

GAME ON … VIU’s soccer teams have a bye week and will then be back at Merle Logan Field the weekend of Oct. 14-15 for games against the Langara Falcons and Douglas Royals. Game times will be noon and 2:30 p.m. both days.
