The VIU Mariners men’s basketball team will be bolstered next season with the addition of another local hoops star.
Anders Cederberg of Nanaimo District Secondary School has committed to Vancouver Island University. Cederberg was a first-team all-star at AAA provincials this month.
“It’s huge for our program to get one of the best guys in the city,” said Matt Kuzminski, M’s coach.
He said Cederberg was involved with the junior Mariners program and so VIU coaches have seen him develop.
Kuzminski said Cederberg is a versatile player who should be able to make an impact as a freshman.
“He can play inside and out,” the coach said. “He gives us size, but he’s actually a very skilled player for a guy his size.”
