Synchro swimmers sparkle at regionals

The Nanaimo Diamonds sparkled at regionals this month.

The city’s synchronized swimming club competed at the Mable Moran Regional Championships in Surrey from April 7-9 and swam to several top finishes.

Taking first place was the 15-and-under provincial stream team of Jessica Deverteuil, Kaia Fuchs, Kiana Jepson, Cadence Jones, Sarah McNeill and Kayley Morch, as well as the 12-and-under provincial stream team of Hazel Elliott, Laura Mace, Tabitha Miner and Bella Robinson.

In the 15-and-under provincial stream duet competition, Nanaimo took both first and second place, with Deverteuil and Fuchs winning and Jones and Bianca Parcher the runners-up. Morch was first in provincial stream novice solo.

Debbie Provencher had a first-place finish in her masters division, with Carol Ramey taking second.

Also, the master team of Mary Jo Mace, Thea Miscavish, Megan Nunez Delgado and Mary Park took second, and the 10-and-under provincial stream team of Lily Davalos, Isabella Hanson, Sierra Jones, Lila Keeling, Taylor McPherson, Macy Miscavish and Aurora Richards placed third.

The Diamonds also had some strong results in figures, notably in the 15-and-under category where they swept the top three placings: Fuchs, first; Deverteuil, second; and Jepson, third.

Jones and Miner were first and second, respectively, in the 12-and-under category and Elliott, Robinson and Richards were first, second and third in 10-and-under.
