The Nanaimo Adult Recreational Slo-pitch League will be a hit with players again this year.

The league holds registration next week for the coming season.

Women ages 45 and up and men 50 and up are invited to join the twice-a-week softball league, which plays out of the McGirr Sports Fields in the north end.

Games are Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and players can sign up to play twice a week or just once a week, depending on their schedules.

“Hopefully we can get some more regular players to play both days, that makes it easier to do the lineups,” said Michael Hunt, the league’s president.

The league is designed to get anyone in the game, as everybody gets to play and everybody gets to bat. Scores are only kept until the end of the game, then forgotten.

“It’s all fun. If anybody gets too serious, we have a little chat with them,” Hunt joked.

He advises any interested players to start limbering up.

“If you haven’t played for awhile, get out and do some walking, do a little bit of exercise and stuff so you don’t get crippled up when the season starts,” Hunt said.

Registration is next Tuesday (April 18) and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at McGirr. Pickup games will follow registration on both days.

Cost to register is $75 for the season for players wishing to play twice a week, or $45 for the season for those wishing to play once a week.

For more information, please call Hunt at 250-755-7052 or 250-616-6908.
