The senior B Nanaimo Timbermen handed out their year-end awards last week and headed into off-season mode.
The city’s West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association club announced that Corey Shires was chosen Most Valuable Player for 2017. Shires tied for second in league scoring this past season with 56 points in 13 games. He also finished second in the WCSLA in goals with 27. Shires was also recognized as Best Stickhandler and Team Scoring Leader.
Jon Diplock was chosen Playoff MVP for the T-men, Darrin Wilson is Rookie of the Year and Bobby Debrone is Defensive Player of the Year. Dave Mjoen was chosen Most Improved Player, Simon Stocks was Most Inspirational and Ty Christiansen and Travis Mickelson shared the Unsung Hero award. Shane Chalker and Debrone were co-winners of Best Conditioned Athlete. Joey Fendick was Most Sportsmanlike Player.
