The Nanaimo Buccaneers will have to scratch and claw through a long playoff series with the Victoria Cougars.

The Bucs and Cougs are going to at least six games in their best-of-seven semifinal after alternating wins during the first four games of the series.

After splitting the first two games in Victoria, the series moved to the Nanaimo Ice Centre this past weekend where the Bucs defeated the Cougars 4-3 on Saturday but then fell 5-1 on Sunday.

In Game 3, Nanaimo erased a 3-0 deficit to win. Dawson Heathcote, Ben Kotylak, Lucas Patton and Brendan Rogers scored and Blake Wood made 18 saves for the win.

In Game 4, Billy Walters scored Nanaimo’s only marker and Wood suffered the loss in goal.

GAME ON … Game 5 will be held Thursday, March 21, in Victoria, with Game 6 on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Game 7, if necessary, would be a matinee Sunday in Victoria.
