Nanaimo’s West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association club scored an 18-10 victory over the Valley Rebels on Saturday in Abbotsford.

The senior B Timbermen shot with deadly accuracy in a lopsided road win this past weekend.

Nanaimo’s West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association club scored an 18-10 victory over the Valley Rebels on Saturday in Abbotsford, finding the back of the net with more than one-third of their 48 shots on net.

“We bounced back and the big thing was that our offence got back on track,” said Mike Maughan, the team’s coach. “Some of your problems go away when you’re able to put the ball in the net like that.”

Nanaimo got its goals both via ball movement in the attacking zone and also with its transition game.

Jon Diplock led the offence with a hat trick and two assists and Shane Chalker also scored a hat trick. Darrin Wilson had two goals and three assists and Ryan Hanna and Joey Fendick also had two-goal games. Other scorers were Graham Palmer, Dylan Dewarle, Andrew Miller, Cole Kryworuchka, Travis Mickelson and Josh Joseph. Conor Woroniuk made 32 saves for the win.

The senior B T-men get back out onto the floor for a midweek game Wednesday (May 17) against the Victoria Wolves. Maughan said the rivalry between Nanaimo and Victoria was instant after the Wolves joined the league in 2016.

“With it being a short season, you don’t want to drop any games, so they’re all big, and then when you get a little rivalry added to the mix, it makes it even more fun,” he said.
