Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling plans to be a part of the bathtub weekend hoopla.

VIPW is putting on a Bathtub Weekend Bash show in Nanaimo on Saturday (July 22) at the Departure Bay Activity Centre. The local pro wrestling organization is building a tradition of bathtub weekend shows timed early enough so that fans can catch the fireworks downtown afterward.

“There’ll be a lot more people around that have never seen wrestling before,” said Scott Steel, a Nanaimo pro wrestler. “We get our regulars, but we have more people that have never seen it, so it’s always nice to entertain for them, as well.”

Steel will be involved in the main event, a fatal four-way match for the VIPW championship. Krofton has to defend the belt against Steel as well as Cremator Von Slasher and Eli Surge. Steel said it will be a challenge going up against the Cremator, a destructive monster; Surge, who is part of the Uprising faction and likely to bring backup; and Krofton, who, as champion, is obviously no slouch.

“I’m going to be more aggressive than I have been in the past,” said Steel. “I’ve been out of the title picture for way too long, so I’m coming with everything I have, plus some more.”

There will be two women’s matches on Saturday’s show involving some high-profile wrestlers, as Nicole Matthews will take on Liiza Hall and Riea Von Slasher will face Cat Power. The other announced match is Andy Bird against Haviko, and fans can expect a couple of other matches, too.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first match at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door, or $15 in advance and $20 at the door for front row. Tickets are available at Centre Court Collectibles, That 50’s Barbershop, the Two-Headed Giant and www.ticketsnap.ca.
