Pirates will play a Canada Day doubleheader

The Mid Island Pirates will play a Canada Day doubleheader.

Nanaimo’s B.C. Premier Baseball League team hosts the Whalley Chiefs on Saturday (July 1) for games at Serauxmen Stadium.

The Pirates are coming off a homestand last weekend that saw them win one of four games. Mid Island started off with an 11-4 victory over the Coquitlam Reds on Saturday at Serauxmen Stadium, but the Reds won the rematch, 5-2. The next day at the Serauxmen Sports Fields, the Pirates were defeated by the league-leading North Shore Twins 5-3 and 12-0.

In Nanaimo’s win, Oden Manhas was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Morley Scott had two hits and three RBIs, Drew Hnatyshyn and Alex Jinda both had two hits and two RBIs and Dylan Brock also had two hits. Gavin Pringle threw a complete game for the win.

GAME ON … Saturday’s game times against the Chiefs are 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the stadium.
