The Nanaimo White Rapids were fast all season and reached top speed at the right time.
The city’s summer swim club earned provincial championships and high placings at the B.C. Summer Swimming Association championships Aug. 18-20 in Kamloops.
The club had 53 swimmers qualify for provincials and as a team, the White Rapids had the sixth-best results.
“The Nanaimo White Rapids brought home many medals, best times and memories,” noted a club press release.
Cam Laturnus was one of the standouts at provincials, winning the 100-metre freestyle and the 100m breaststroke as well as teaming with Stewart Stephen, Quinn Todd and Nick Bennett to win the freestyle relay.
Peter Morch was another multiple gold medallist, winning the 50m free, the 50m butterfly and the 100m free and helping the Vancouver Island regional relay team to a first-place finish.
Cadence Jones won the 50m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley and Haley Bennett was first in the 200m individual medley.
Nanaimo’s other gold medallist at provincials was Dylan Barberie, who was part of the winning regional relay team.
