Nanaimo’s Shirin Anjarwalla needed a few extra holes of golf to defend her championship.

The youth won this past weekend’s Women’s Mid-Island Amateur tournament at the Nanaimo Golf Club.

Anjarwalla was tied with Port Alberni’s Christina Proteau through 18 holes on Sunday and the two continued to match one another for five playoff holes before Anjarwalla prevailed.

Over 36 holes, the two leaders both shot 154.

This year’s low net winner was Billie Chang of Mount Brenton Golf Course with an adjusted score of 147.

New this year was a best-of-the-best eclectic division, where golfers kept only their best score on each hole from either day. Erin Farner of the Glencoe Golf and Country Club and Michelle Waters of Pheasant Glen Golf Resort tied for the low gross prize with scores of 66. Anita Stuart and Valerie Fitzpatrick, both of the Victoria Golf Club, were low net winners with adjusted scores of 54.
