The Nanaimo Clippers will set a new course next season, as the junior A hockey team announced it will be re-branding with a new logo.

According to a club press release, the B.C. Hockey League team is embarking on a “comprehensive re-branding initiative” that will include new primary and secondary logos and “dynamic jersey designs that embody the team’s rich history and vibrant future.”

Jared Rhind, president of Nanaimo’s Pedestrian Studio, will lead the creative direction on the project, the Clippers announced. He said in the release that it’s been an honour to gather insight from fans, players and alumni, and said from the start, his studio has been aligned with team management’s vision to balance a new direction with the team’s rich history.

“Launching innovation into something as beloved as a city’s team is a serious endeavour, and we believe it will come to embody the very best of our Clippers and Nanaimo,” Rhind said. “We can’t wait to share it with you, to proudly don the crest, and cheer beside you at the rink.”

The franchise’s history goes back to 1972, though Nanaimo Clippers junior hockey can be traced as far back as 1944. The Clippers promise fans that their new look will celebrate both tradition and modernity when they reveal the logo and jersey designs this summer.

“We will be thrilled to unveil our updated look as we embark on a new era for the Nanaimo Clippers,” said Brad Kwong, managing partner of the team’s ownership group. “This re-branding represents more than just a change in aesthetics; it’s a symbol of our dedication to our loyal supporters and the vibrant community of Nanaimo that we hope will be a part of Nanaimo for many years to come.”

Season ticket holders will have the first chance to order merchandise bearing the new logo. For more information, visit http://tickets.nanaimoclippers.com.
