The BCHL’s Island Division teams found a way to play hockey this fall, and the Nanaimo Clippers were the best at it.

The Clippers won the Island Cup exhibition tournament, defeating the Victoria Grizzlies 5-4 in the Tuesday’s final played at Victoria’s Q Centre. The Clippers led 4-1 after two periods and were up 5-2 in the third before the Grizz made things interesting by scoring two with the goalie pulled and an extra attacker.

Sean Donaldson scored a pair of goals for the Clippers including the game-winner, with Gianni Fairbrother, Tim Washe and Baxter Anderson also tallying. Jordan Naylor earned the win in goal as his team outshot the opposition 37-32.

Nanaimo reached the Island Cup final by winning Monday’s semifinal 8-2 against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
