Nanaimo weightlifter Raf Korkowski won his ninth career Western Canadian championship.

The coach and competitor from the Hercules Weightlifting Club placed first in the snatch and the clean-and-jerk at the Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships in Saskatoon last month.

Korkowski snatched 301 pounds (137 kilograms) and clean-and-jerked 348 pounds (158kg) in his 105kg weight category.

He will compete in mid-May at the Canadian Masters National Championships in Kelowna and will try to finish atop the podium and try for Canadian masters records in his weight class.
