Vancouver Island University’s high school girls’ volleyball tournament served up a new season, as is tradition at this time of year.

This past week’s tournament, held Friday and Saturday, featured 35 teams, with the favourites, the Belmont Bulldogs, going on to win, defeating St. Thomas More in the final.

The Nanaimo District Islanders were the top local entry at the tourney, placing fifth. The Dover Bay Dolphins were seventh and the Nanaimo Christian School Trail Blazers came 11th. Also, the John Barsby Bulldogs were 17th, the Dolphins junior girls came 18th and the Wellington Wildcats were 31st.

The tourney used the VIU gym and courts at John Barsby Secondary School and NDSS.
