Nanaimo’s senior girls’ volleyball teams bumped, set and spiked their way to provincials.

Several local high school teams get to extend their season and try for B.C. championships after doing well at Island championships this past weekend.

Highlights from last week’s action included the Dover Bay Dolphins winning the senior AAAA girls’ Island title in Victoria and the Nanaimo Christian School Trail Blazers winning the senior A girls’ Island title in their home gym. Also, the John Barsby Bulldogs senior AA girls placed second at Islands in their home gym and move on to provincials, while the Nanaimo District Islanders senior AAAA girls were second at Islands in Victoria and also get to go to provincials.

The senior AAAA girls’ Island final was played Saturday, Nov. 19, at Oak Bay High School. The Dolphins, in a rematch of last year, again prevailed over the Islanders, winning 22-25, 25-17, 13-25, 25-16, 15-9.

Dover’s Kaitlyn Carlson was chosen tournament MVP and her teammate Erika Foy was an all-star. NDSS players Emma Kirk and Payton Lundine were also chosen all-stars.

Both those teams will play in provincial championships Dec. 1-3 at Okanagan Mission Secondary School in Kelowna.
