The Nanaimo Buccaneers extended their winning streak in impressive fashion.

The city’s Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League club won both its games last week, coming back to beat the Saanich Braves 6-4 on Thursday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre and then shutting out the Campbell River Storm 4-0 on Friday up Island.

In the home game, the Braves opened a 4-0 lead, but it was all Bucs from there. Jayden Schubert and Mathieu Jallabert each had two goals and two assists and Dylan Hartl and Darian Harris had a goal and an assist each. Blake Wood made 23 saves for the win.

Two nights later, the Bucs were able to shut down the VIJHL’s highest-scoring team.

Derek Krall stopped 44 shots as his team was outshot by a wide margin. Trey Watson scored two goals and Booker Chacalias and Jallabert also tallied.

Nanaimo (7-1) has now won six straight games and is in first place not only in the North Division, but also in the league.

GAME ON … The Bucs host the Oceanside Generals on Thursday (Oct. 5) at 7:15 p.m. at the NIC.
