The Nanaimo Clippers put themselves in a good light at the BCHL Showcase.
The city’s junior A hockey team won one and tied one at the B.C. Hockey League’s annual weekend event in Chilliwack.
The Clips defeated the host Chilliwack Chiefs 3-2 in Friday night’s feature game, then earned a tie Saturday afternoon against the Wenatchee Wild.
On Friday, Tristan Crozier scored the game-winning goal in the first minute of double overtime; his brother Maxwell Crozier assisted on the play. Also scoring were Jamie Collins and Jake Harris, while goalie Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe made 33 saves for the win.
The next day it was Harris who scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of the third period on a power play with the goalie pulled. Parker Colley and Vincent Millette were other scorers. Goaltender Austin Roden stopped all 14 shots he faced in the third to give his team a chance to tie and finished with 37 saves on the day.
GAME ON … The Clips visit the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday, then host the Vernon Vipers on Saturday (Sept. 30) at 6 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
