Jag Singh Seehra of the Nanaimo Boxing Club won one bout at the Boxing Canada championships

A Nanaimo boxer was able to win on the national stage.

Jag Singh Seehra of the Nanaimo Boxing Club won one bout at the Boxing Canada championships last week in Quebec City. Seehra, competing in the elite men’s division, won a unanimous decision against Alberta’s Thomas Tordoff to start the event Thursday, but lost to eventual-national champ Arthur Biyarslanov the next day in a first-round stoppage.

Another Nanaimo Boxing Club athlete competing at nationals was Ivy Richardson, who lost her opening bout in the elite women’s division to Ontario’s Caitlin Trenholme in a unanimous decision Thursday.

The Boxing Canada championships were held over seven days at the Hotel Hilton Quebec.

Seehra and Richardson qualified for nationals by winning at provincials back in October.
