A Nanaimo boxer is well on his way toward climbing into title contention after beating a highly ranked opponent this month. Dan Baxter of Tomari Martial Arts won a four-round cruiserweight bout against Harkeerat Nijjar of Surrey on June 3 in Victoria.

“Dan not only out-jabbed him, but landed many overhand rights as he moved in and followed up with good body hooks followed by head hooks,” said Don Arnott, Tomari trainer.

The two combatants had sparred before and Baxter had been stymied by Nijjar’s reach advantage, but this time Baxter and Arnott developed a strategy to neutralize the opponent’s jab.

Arnott said Baxter should now be a No. 1 contender in line for a B.C. title fight.
