Nanaimo Clippers needed overtime to beat division rivals

Nanaimo Clippers needed overtime to squeak out a win against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and remain in the fourth and final playoff spot for now.

The Clippers are now three points up on the Bulldogs after Saturday’s 4-3 win in overtime on the road.

Jake Harris scored the winning goal, with an assist from Ben Solin, who had two points on the night.

Matt Creamer and Lucas Finner each scored a goal and an assist. Jamie Collins rounded out the scoring for Nanaimo.

Shots on goal were even at 35 apiece.

A day earlier, the Clippers lost 2-1 to the Penticton Vees at Frank Crane Arena, despite outshooting the Interior team 33-22.

Creamer had Nanaimo’s only goal in that game, the an assist by Ben Taylor.

The win over B.C. Hockey League Island Division rival Alberni Valley putsNanaimo in fourth spot three points ahead of Alberni in the playoff race.

The Clippers have seven games left in the regular season, all against Island Division rivals.

The team plays Cowichan Valley Capitals Tuesday (Feb. 7) in Duncan.

GAME ON The Clippers play Alberni Valley Bulldogs Friday (Feb. 10) at Frank Crane Arena. Puck drop is 7 p.m. The Clippers play again after Family Day long weekend when they take on the Capitals at Frank Crane on Feb. 15.
