Island Top Team has top finish

Island Top Team club members won multiple medals at an event in Vancouver this month. Nanaimo athletes combined to win 11 medals at the Canadian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s Vancouver International Open at UBC on Dec. 10.

Dwayne Johnston won three golds, including winning the open-weight absolute division via submission. He also won gold in his weight class and in intermediate no gi masters. Matt Kwan won his no gi advanced division, finishing his three opponents with a mix of arm and leg locks. Huthayfah Penny took gold in gi blue belt and no gi intermediate and Blake Deal captured gold in beginner no gi masters. Simarjeet Kaur took silver in beginner no gi.
