Golf tourney revs up
The Nanaimo Golf Club course is pristine and ready for the region’s best female golfers to give it their best shots.
The 65th Women’s Mid-Island Amateur Golf Tournament will be contested this Saturday (June 7) and Sunday.
Tournament chairwoman Heather Lindsay-Lecuyer said last week that more than 90 women had registered. They’ll come for the competition, to see the new clubhouse, and the course itself is always a draw.
“We have one of the best golf courses on Vancouver Island,” Lindsay-Lecuyer said.
Perennial winner Christina Proteau will be a favourite in the field again this year, and Alison Murdoch, Jackie Little and Nanaimo players Kim Evans and Shirin Anjarwalla will also be in the mix.
“Any time you have another opportunity to tee it up with women that are great players, it’s an absolute bonus and it does good things for your game,” said Evans.
The major hole-in-one prize this year is a 2014 Cadillac ATS courtesy Laird Wheaton.
