Curling rink gets major tournament

These curlers know their stuff, and Nanaimo sports fans will get to see that first-hand.

Curl B.C. announced this week that the Nanaimo Curling Centre will host the 2015 B.C. Masters Curling Championships.

Sixteen teams, including zone champions, will gather in early March for the week-long event.

“We look forward to showcasing our facility and the city of Nanaimo,” said Denise Wood, curling centre manager, in a press release. “We have a lot of fun with the masters. They really enjoy the social aspect of the game. They’re still competitive, but at the same time they are not cut-throat; they want to have a good time.”

Two Nanaimo women, Zorka Smith and Eilene Mitton, were provincial masters champions this past season.
