Redmen shut down another opponent
You can't lose if you don't get scored on.
The Nanaimo Redmen won their second straight game by a shutout score in Vancouver Mainland Football League play, beating the Chilliwack Giants 14-0 on Sunday at May Richards Bennett Pioneer Park.
The red team led just 4-0 at halftime, but broke through for a major to start the third quarter.
Coach Sean Roden said his team's defence led the way against the Giants.
"They had no answer for what we were doing on defence," he said. "Even though the game was tight all the way through, it felt like we were in control of the game the whole way."
Marcus Severe scored Nanaimo's touchdown, Spencer Vos kicked two field goals and Jacob Odynsky, Ron MacDonald and Jake Borserio had interceptions. Borserio also recovered an onside kick.
"It's looking good, but there's still some really good teams on the mainland so we're not looking too far," said Odynsky. "It's just 2-0. It's a good start but we've got a long way to go."
GAME ON … The Redmen visit the North Delta Longhorns this coming weekend. The VMFL has yet to release the entire season's schedule.
