Barsby teams up with city's gardeners

Hoisting a shovel for a couple of days will help the Barsby Bulldogs get ready for next season. Not only will it build some muscle, but it might build character, too.

John Barsby Community Secondary School’s football program is holding its annual manure sale this Saturday and Sunday (March 16-17) in the school’s back parking lot.

The sale is the program’s most important fundraiser each year, with proceeds going toward uniforms and protective equipment.

“It’s an incredible team builder with everybody pitching in,” said Rob Stevenson, coach of the Bulldogs. “There’s a pride element in that our young people are working to put their shirts on their backs.”

Forty-pound (18-kilogram) bags of cow manure cost $5 each, or $20 for five bags on pick-up purchases. The sale runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, or while supplies last.

Gardeners can arrange for home delivery by stopping by the school office up until 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
