Hub City Pirates win via blowout

The premier Pirates didn’t miss a beat as they returned to league play.

The Hub City Paving Pirates baseball team swept the White Rock Tritons on Sunday on the mainland, winning by scores of 11-0 and 3-1.

Playing their first regular-season games since May 13, the Pirates (17-4) came out swinging in White Rock, pounding out 12 hits in their blowout victory.

Bryan Odgers led the offence with a single, double and a triple and Brady Rogers had a single, double and three RBIs. Alex Rogers also singled and doubled, Ben Dunbar added three RBIs and Justin Clarkson had a double and two walks. The 11 runs were plenty for pitcher Luke Skingle (6-0), who allowed just two hits and two walks and struck out six in a complete game.

The second game saw Colby Morgan earn the win on the mound, as he scattered five hits over a complete game. Offence came from Braeden Mousseau, who hit an RBI single, and Nate Odgers, who doubled.

GAME ON … The Pirates play the Parksville Royals (6-15) on Wednesday (May 30) at 6 p.m. at Parksville’s Springwood Park. Next home action for the Pirates isn’t until the weekend of June 9-10 when the Coquitlam Reds and Abbotsford Cardinals, respectively, visit Serauxmen Stadium.
