Hornets women defeated in B.C. final
The Nanaimo Hornets battled gamely but finished just short of another B.C. championship.
The Div. 1 women's rugby team was defeated 29-17 on Saturday in Duncan by the Cowichan Piggies.
Nanaimo scored the first try of the game and the matchup was tied 12-12 at half but the Piggies built up a lead in the second half that the Hornets couldn't overcome, despite pressing until the final whistle.
“That’s what a final’s supposed to be,’’ said Carolyn Gudmundseth, Piggies veteran player.
