VIU Mariners smart at school

The Vancouver Island University Mariners teams are all about getting that W. But when they’re in class, they’re all trying to get an A.

The university released its academic excellence list for the fall semester and 36 VIU student-athletes made the grade with an average of B+ or better.

The men’s volleyball team had the best grade-point average of VIU’s teams, while the women’s soccer team had the highest number of athletes on the academic excellence list. Top student-athletes for fall 2011 were soccer player Stephen Ewashko and basketball player Heather McCarthy.
