Cyclocross series gets wheels rolling

Some of the most fun on two wheels every year is the Cross on the Rock cyclocross series, and it's back. The first of seven cross races of the season, Coal Cross, was held Sunday in Cumberland. An extremely hot day saw great participation numbers in all divisions. To see full results, please click here. Top-10 local results include:

Beginner men - Shawn Boyd, first; Paul Autun, second; John Higgin, third; Mike Quarress, fourth; Steve Thompson, eighth.

Intermediate women - Charlene Stewart, third.

Masters men - Russell Berg, fourth.

Expert women - Carey Sather, sixth.

Expert men - Normon Thibault, eighth.

There will be two Nanaimo stops on the locally organized race series this year, Oct. 15 at Beban Park and then Oct. 16 at Bowen Park. For more information about the Cross on the Rock series, please click here.
