Mistakes should not be labeled evil

To the Editor,

Re: All-male panel upsets female participant, Letters, Jan. 27.

In Madeline Bruce’s letter she expressed her displeasure that the interfaith symposium had an all-male panel with no female representation. I find that understandable for someone to complain about but what I don’t find acceptable is that she found this not just wrong but even evil.

To me this sort of perspective is a clear sign that what is good and evil is becoming clouded in this right-wing politically correct generation of today.

I’m sure it could be possible some people could have been offended if their race was not represented, or their faith ignored, or their point of view overlooked.

People are becoming so concerned about everything they say or do because they are afraid of being misinterpreted as being racist or a sexist.

It is no fun to be around people who are ready to see a demon in you if you use the wrong expression or say a light joke to break the ice.

This reminds me of the witch hunt days and I think people should just lighten up.

There is real evil in the world and it comes in the form of murder, rape, mutilation, extortion, torture, armed robbery, theft, winning the argument but not the truth in court, physical and emotional assault, greed, etc.

Placing unnecessary guilt on well-meaning people could also be called an emotional assault in order to gain power and control.

We all make mistakes but it is important not to burden people with unnecessary guilt because it is bad testimony of what having a good conscience is all about.
