Community better thanks to charities

To the Editor,

Re: Give to charity, but do so wisely, Editorial, June 17.

Charities are a big part of what makes a community great.

I agree it pays to enquire exactly where your money is going and how much is being spent wisely and how much is being spend on administrative costs.

The Nanaimo Foundation runs strictly on volunteers and probably 98 per cent of our funds go to local non-profits. People can go to our website and vote or rate the matters that are important to the citizens of Nanaimo. This will help us decide where the gifts of legacies and endowment monies that have been left to us will be spent. All money remains in our community.

Be sure to go to www.nanaimofoundation.com and rate our community. I think you will be surprised that many things in Nanaimo will be rated very highly.

I also agree that it has been proven time and time again that Nanamoites are a generous bunch.

Ted Carson
chairman
