Morden Mine deserves top spot
To the Editor,
Re: 101 Things to See and Do in Nanaimo, May 13.
The 2014 version of this useful guide proposes a trip to the Nanaimo Museum as the No. 1 thing for a visitor to do. That’s all well and good. Two grand coal mine artifacts of great importance, however, are relegated to the also-ran category. One has to look very hard to find Morden Colliery Historic Provincial Park (No. 87 on the list) and harder still to find the Colliery Dams, buried under No. 4, Go for a walk.
May I suggest that in next year’s guide, our coal mining heritage be given pride of place, with visitors directed to the museum’s exhibit as a useful starting point, followed by trips to Morden Colliery and the Colliery dams?
