City trying different tourism techniques

To the Editor,

Re: Cruise tourism misses the boat, Editorial, Jan. 23.

We have seen the collective wisdom of our elected officials in two field-of-dreams – build it and they will come – attempts to attract tourists: the convention centre and the dock for large ships.

It appears that city council has come up with another foolproof plan to attract tourists: burning Vancouver’s trash. Once we become famous as the place Vancouver sends its trash to be burned, who wouldn’t want to visit Nanaimo?
