Ferries bosses don't deserve bonuses
To the Editor,
Re: Ferries execs get bonus cheques, Aug. 27.
The original use of the term ‘bonus’ was if an employee was successful creating more profit for the business, a bonus was awarded, i.e. sharing of the profit.
With B.C. Ferries, this is hardly a case of a ‘bonus,’ but an ‘entitlement.’
Government, and government corporations generate no money, but live on the taxpayer dole; entitlement is standard of such organizations.
As for B.C. Ferries, the chairman rambled on about profit when he does admit traffic – which pays the bills – is down. Somehow this justifies massive management rewards.
Executives reporting to stockholders succeed or get fired. Ferries bosses get paid by the taxpayers, who cannot fire incompetents.
