Get teachers to work more
To the Editor,
Re: Changes proposed to school calendar, Jan. 29.
Instead of cutting class time as the second proposal suggests, how about teachers coming in an hour earlier to discuss the concerns that they have.
The teachers are salaried employees and if they are truly concerned about situations in the school, the one hour before school can’t be that onerous a task.
As a former teacher that attended staff meetings after school, I find the current leadership and teaching staff so utterly concerned about their time and work – which is the shortest in a year of any profession – that any extra time devoted to making the teaching environment better is not even a matter to be proposed.
