Refinery should be built in neighbouring province
To the Editor,
Re: Black Press owner proposes Kitimat oil refinery, Aug. 21.
David Black has a good idea for building an oil refinery in Kitimat, but the bitumen (which is the worst to clean up) would still be piped from Alberta through our wilderness to the refinery.
This would not solve the impact of oil spills on our environment. The refinery needs to be built in Alberta, not B.C., and then the product could also be shipped East where right now they are buying it elsewhere.
Why can’t all Canadians benefit from our oil?
As for thousands of jobs here as Enbridge has claimed, Alberta is always advertising for workers, so how many B.C. residents are already working in Alberta in the oil fields?
Their families are here and still paying taxes and they commute.
