Re: City explores Linley purchase options, March 1.
Congratulations Nanaimo city council on your decision to put some serious effort into protecting this area for future generations. As a homeowner, I would be happy to pay a $24 annual parcel tax to purchase Linley Valley West.
City council needs to quickly rezone or covenant the five properties in question to stop the bulldozers and chainsaws to protect this habitat.
At present, the owners are well within their rights to log and build access roads. Hundreds of years of growth can be wiped out in a single afternoon. The owners need to have some incentive offered to protect this valley while negotiations take place.
