Conservative policy takes country into ‘modern Dark Ages’
To the Editor,
The young page Brigitte DePape who so disconcerted the House of Commons by holding up a homemade stop sign has made clear in a public interview why she did it.
She states very clearly she was protesting: “a Conservative government ready to spend billions on fighter jets we don’t need, to pollute the environment we want protected, to degrade a health-care system we want improved, and to cut social programs and public sector jobs we value.”
Naturally, the response of the government was to sputter about the threat of terrorists infiltrating the House.
Personally, I am horrified that my generation, the baby boomers, have handed Harper four years to trash our finances, our international reputation and our environment.
I look forward to Harper’s government suffering the penalty that Mulroney did years ago when the Conservative government was reduced to only two seats.
Unfortunately, we are in for a new level of chicanery, misdirected overspending, patronage and contempt for the voter until then.
But all is not lost. I should be able to make some easy cash selling bumper stickers saying, “I survived the modern Dark Ages.”
