To the editor,

Re: Financial plan to be voted on by city council, April 12.

Does city council think the tax payers have a limitless supply of money? A three-per cent tax increase proposal, which doesn’t even cover the requisition from the Regional District of Nanaimo.

It appears that a lot of this expense is because our council can’t get along. How do they figure on less spending on legal costs than their previous record?

It seems the homeless illegally pitch their tents in protest on city hall and the council opens the purse strings of the taxpayers to fund those who pay nothing. If we build more housing for the homeless, is it not an invitation to the homeless elsewhere through the country to relocate to the mild climate here?

Aside from this issue, my other beef about this council is the way they hope to quietly slip in a loan for $17 million for what must be the most expensive fire hall ever. You can’t send in your disapproval for this in any easy way. It entails either downloading the form, printing it and mailing costs, or trying to get some time off work to show up during the limited office hours of city hall.

Well, I guess there will be more homeless in our city when their reckless spending puts more of us out of our homes trying desperately to cover the escalating taxes. This council has to go. We need to show up next election (which can’t come soon enough), and rid our fair city of this gong show.
