To the editor,

Re: Beefs and Bouquets, Aug. 17.

There were comments regarding “too many motorcycles and cars equipped to make excessive, sometimes horrendous noise.”

Hundreds of people feel this way. On many occasions, whether sleeping or driving you experience these vehicles idle at great decibels and then reach maximum force when they speed off. There are guidelines in our motor vehicle act regulations. Nothing is being enforced. Some of these mufflers have been augmented to create more noise. Note to male driver: this does not impress a woman. It just makes you look like a neanderthal.

I encourage people to take down licence plates and call the RCMP traffic for complaints. There are many hazards to noise pollution: hearing impairment, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, annoyance, and sleep disturbance. Now, City of Nanaimo – enforce it.
