The city should have contracted out garbage collection and used its staff resources elsewhere, says letter writer. (NEWS BULLETIN file)

To the editor,

Re: $6.2M approved for garbage automation, Aug. 17.

I am thinking that first, we should not have to borrow monies to fund new trucks and bins. We already have a system that works. Why change it? Maybe we should look at contracting out, move employees to parks and public works. It is quite apparent that our city needs a lot of cleanup on roads, intersections, and walkways. We have a very sorry looking city as far as grasses not cut, boulevards not cleaned properly, sidewalks need to have weeds removed, etc. Not very pretty if you are a visitor to our not so beautiful city anymore.
