To the editor,

City officials do not have a clue what they are doing with our streets.

Prideaux Street in front of the new social housing building on the corner of Fitzwilliam Street is now so narrow you can hardly keep your car within the lines of the lane.

Going up Victoria Road from Esplanade you have to drive over the centre line into the oncoming lane because the parking spots have been made way too narrow.

The city is also making a mess out of the intersection downtown at Commercial and Terminal. When construction is finished, it looks like vehicles will have a tough time turning right from Commercial onto southbound Terminal Avenue.

And don’t forget Metral Drive. Last week, I and other drivers had to pull our cars up onto the hardly used bike lane because an ambulance could not get by us on the narrow roadway. I’ve only seen half a dozen cyclists using the bike lane since its completion.

City hall is choking Nanaimo as our city grows and strangling us into moving somewhere else.

Noah P. Oliver, Nanaimo
