Coverage subtly manipulated

Newspapers are allowed to have a position and to endorse parties and candidates.

Re: It’s important to vote, Editorial, May 9.

Your editorial avoided making an endorsement, and was instead another bland ‘be sure to vote’ plea. So, you are apparently neutral. A quick whip through the paper shows otherwise. Page A3 headlines: “Horgan aims to make B.C. more affordable to live” and “B.C. Green Party leader talks health care at rally.” Page A6: “Liberal leader makes Nanaimo campaign stop.” Very smooth. Newspapers are allowed to have a position and to endorse parties and candidates – good ones do it on the editorial pages and not through subtle manipulation of stories and headlines.
