Beef to the adults who intimidated a 10-year-old girl to tears right out of the 50-metre continuous lane at the aquatic centre during public swimming. She is a strong swim club member.

BOUQUET To the generous, honest, unidentified person who turned in my wallet to London Drugs. I was notified and retrieved it intact with cash and 10 gift cards. My heartfelt thanks.

BEEF Which comes first, the cyclist or the cycle tracks? It is difficult to be a cyclist in town if there are no cycle tracks. There is no need to demarcate the cycle tracks in concrete as in Metral Drive; however, there is a need to cut down on the number of motorist if we are to reduce the carbon footprint.

BOUQUET To Dr. Sandy and his staff at Woodgrove Dental Clinic. I needed some work done on one of my teeth and there was no charge when he found out I had lost my son to a drug overdose before Christmas. He said I needed some ‘happy’ in my life today. Thank you, you are a caring person.

BEEF To commercial drivers with logs, fuel or cargo that pull into the left lane at red lights beside arguably similar-sized vehicles. Now we are all stuck behind the snails-pace ego-race that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

BOUQUET To the young man who took charge, and the others who helped when my 87-year-old wife fell at the gas station in Nanoose Bay.

BEEF To the politicians who borrow billions to buy our votes. Money that my children and grandchildren have to repay. Let’s live within our means.

BOUQUET To Ms. Carole and Ms. Bev at Kirkwood Academy of Performing Arts.

BEEF To the city for putting such a large speed hump for the pedestrians on Estevan Road. The sign is hidden by branches until you are nearly on top of it. The speed hump and sign cannot be seen easily day or night and I was nearly thrown from my motorcycle as a result of hitting it at 45 kilometres an hour after school hours. Dangerous decision by the city.

BOUQUET To the Toyota dealer that fixed my windshield wiper.

BEEF To the beefer who dislikes the feeding of crows. You say that it attract crows to an area and habituates them to being fed, which is not true. The birds were here long before I moved here and started to throw them food on occasion. These birds are extremely clever and remember me, so yes, they like me and the tidbits I provide. Is that so terrible?

BOUQUET To each and every one. To Susan who heard me calling for help and called 911. The fire department and paramedics. NRGH trauma ward doctors and nurses. The x-ray department. The great staff on the third floor. Family and friends. You all added to my recovery after my disastrous tumble.

BEEF To the parents at the elementary school without a disability permit who park in those spots every single day.

BOUQUET To jewelry business Aviessa. A friend and I bought some custom jewelry at the market for ourselves and for gifts. Everyone loves them and comments on them.

BEEF To the woman at the supermarket. Having someone accidentally grab your shopping cart did not justify overreacting like you did. I finally chose to put my items back in your cart and walk away when I got tired of you judging my character because of something so ridiculous. Bouquet to anyone who has to deal with you on the regular – I can only imagine what that’s like.

BOUQUET To the pharmacy team at Shoppers Drug Mart on Mary Ellen Drive, always so efficient and informative.

BEEF To the school board, the teachers’ association and the principal for letting one primary class fall so far behind this year and be so mismanaged. How do you expect these children to get a positive experience with your lack of education or structure? Does this mean they will all have to repeat that grade?

BOUQUET To Walls Electric. We had some lights repaired, and they were here and done in no time, without any disruptions to our office.

BEEF To local purchasers on the online market. To show up and try to pay less when the listed price is already a great deal for you is insulting. If you want to pay less, negotiate first to see if the seller is willing to take your offer prior to showing up. It is a waste of everyone’s time meeting up if the lesser amount you offer in the moment isn’t acceptable, and rude to show up with less than what has been listed or previously agreed upon.

BOUQUET To Lysh at Real Insurance Solutions. I was trying to find the time to renew my car insurance and she called unexpectedly and completed it over the phone with me in under 10 minutes. She is always great at explaining things.

BEEF Looking for local shrimp, I was happy finding a spot on Nanaimo’s waterfront, $10 per pound. When peeling the shells, I realized most of them were females full of eggs, which is illegal. Is there no one from fisheries controlling what is being collected from our water for the future?

BOUQUET To the After-School Kids Klub at Beban Park. Thank you for your enthusiasm and the super fun activities you host for our kids.

BEEF Everyone’s up in arms over government not having $10 daycare in place. Don’t have kids if you can’t afford them. Then you can keep your $10 in your pocket.

BOUQUET To Kal Tire for their response to the prolonged tire changeover on my vehicle. It certainly wasn’t Indy 500 pit stop service, but I hadn’t complained and they voluntarily acknowledged the slow service, and more than made good on it.

BEEF To the authoritative beefer who knows all about the eating habits of birds and animals. My father the living God feeds birds and so do I. I’m 83 and I’ve heard your kind many times.

BOUQUET To Northfield Road Tim Hortons. So speedy and cheery. Glad you are back open. Thank you.

BOUQUET To Kaitlyn, a Nanaimo EMT who was unbelievably kind, compassionate and caring when we lost our loved one last weekend. Her support and hugs will not be forgotten in this difficult time. How lucky are we to have such beautiful people taking care of our community.

BEEF To the territorial group of adults that intimidated a 10-year-old girl to tears right out of the 50-metre continuous lane at the aquatic centre during public swimming. She is a strong swim club member. Hope next time you look in the mirror when you are wearing a ‘be kind’ pink t-shirt.

BOUQUET To the people who helped me catch my nervous black dog on Bay Street a couple of weeks ago. Much obliged. Dog people are good people.

BEEF To councillors who live in ivory towers. You don’t seem able to relate to or care about average citizens in the real world.

BOUQUET Thank you for the lovely bouquet which we collected from Turley’s Florist.

BEEF I planted irises and other pretty plants on the lawn in front of our house. Some person has dug them all up. Hope you enjoy your stolen plants.

BOUQUET Thank you to the staff in surgical day care at NRGH. I went in quite nervous, and reception, nurses and doctors treated me so well. They kept my family informed on how I was doing, and made the whole procedure smooth. I couldn’t have been in better hands.

BEEF To the person or persons who discard your unwanted flyers on to the ground from your mailbox on Extension Road. Stop it. You know who you are. Take them home, like the rest of us, and recycle.

BOUQUET To my cat Higgins, easily the best cat of all time. I have met all of the other cats and it is no contest. You deserve all of the wet food the world has to offer. Keep on Higgin on.

BEEF To whoever is responsible for the many potholes on Jingle Pot Road not being repaired.

BOUQUET To the City of Nanaimo for making the Beaufort dog park trail great again.

BEEF To the beefer who went on about how drug users get free food, housing, needles, clothes, money. Quite patently false, or we wouldn’t have 600 or so unhoused people in Nanaimo. If you think that living like that on the pittance of a dole we get is so easy and cushy, why don’t you try relying on charity and social programs? I suspect you’ll quickly find you do not like it, and would not choose to live that way.

BOUQUET To the person who painted the lovely trees and water painting on the corner billboard on Comox Road and Front Street.

BEEF I received my latest waste collection reminder e-mail at 9:51 a.m. telling me that carts must be at the curb by 8 a.m. My cart had already been picked up nearly an hour before the reminder was sent.
